What is the BMW Recommended Tire Pressure?

If you don’t want to get a flat on your commute to Walnut Creek or on your way to explore Concord CA hiking trails, having the correct tire pressure is important. The recommended tire pressure for most BMW models is 32 PSI (pounds per square inch), but it can vary. Check your owner’s manual, or check the sticker on the inside edge of the driver’s door to get the PSI for your specific model. Benefits of Maintaining Proper Pressure in Your Tires

If you have your BMW tires inflated to the correct PSI, you’ll be able to maintain excellent handling as well as safety in your BMW X5 or 3 Series. The Department of Energy states that properly inflated tires can even improve fuel efficiency up to 3.3%. If you have a new BMW model it will come with a tire pressure monitoring system that can automatically alert you with a dashboard warning light if there’s an issue on Lafayette roads.

How to Check Tire Pressure

It’s best to check tire pressure after the tires have cooled down–in other words, not right after you’ve driven your vehicle extensively. Why? When the air in your tires heats up from driving, it expands, which can give underinflated tires an inaccurately high PSI measurement.

Follow these steps to check your tire air pressure:

  1. Unscrew the valve stem cap.
  2. Place a tire pressure gauge onto the valve stem and firmly press down.
  3. The gauge will display the PSI.
  4. Remove the gauge and replace the valve stem cap.
  5. If your BMW tire’s PSI is too high: briefly press down the center plunger in the valve stem to release some air, then remeasure.
  6. If you have low inflation pressure: you can fill up your tires at a gas station or BMW Concord service center.
  7. Be sure to occasionally check your spare tire with the same steps so it’s ready to go.
