The new BMW i3 reaches the East Bay in early 2027

The first fully electric 3 Series goes on sale in the US in the first quarter of 2027, BMW says. Here is what is confirmed, what isn't yet, and how to reserve one through BMW Concord now.

When can you get the new BMW i3 in the East Bay?

BMW of North America says the US launch of the 2027 i3 50 xDrive begins in the first quarter of 2027. It starts at $61,500 MSRP plus $1,350 destination.

Reservations are already open. BMW began taking US reservations on September 29, 2026, with a $1,000 deposit placed on BMW's website, according to Electrek. The reservation goes to the BMW retailer you pick, CBT News reports, the same way BMW handles iX3 reservations. Pick BMW Concord, or contact us with questions first.

Updated October 22, 2026. Pricing, timing and specifications are from BMW of North America's release on the new 3 Series. Pricing excludes tax, title, registration and dealer fees.

You can't test drive an i3 until it arrives, but the iX3 gives you the same output and charging hardware to feel today. Request a test drive and ask for the iX3, and see our guide to how far the iX3 goes in East Bay heat and cold. What BMW has confirmed, and what it hasn't

BMW has published enough to reserve with confidence. A few things that matter for East Bay buyers are still open, and we would rather say so than guess.

Confirmed by BMW of North America

  • The i3 50 xDrive is the US launch model, from $61,500 plus $1,350 destination.
  • 463 hp and 476 lb-ft from a motor on each axle, with 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds.
  • An 800-volt system with DC fast charging at up to 400 kW, plus bidirectional charging.
  • Eight wheel choices from 19 to 21 inches, and US sales starting in Q1 2027.

Not published yet for the US

  • An official EPA range rating. BMW's 446 to 468 miles is its own estimate from preliminary testing.
  • Other US versions. BMW says the i3 M60 xDrive premieres in 2027, with no US price yet.
  • A firm delivery date for any individual car, which depends on allocation.
  • A federal tax credit. There isn't one: the credits do not apply to vehicles acquired after September 30, 2025, per the IRS.

What is new about the i3

It keeps the 3 Series' sport-sedan proportions, then changes nearly everything you touch.

Sixth-generation eDrive

BMW says Gen6 eDrive is about 30% better on both range and charging speed than the previous generation.

One family, two powertrains

The i3 sits in the same new 3 Series lineup as the gasoline 330, 330 xDrive and M350 xDrive, which share its US launch window.

Charging at home

BMW's Wallbox Professional delivers up to 15.4 kW of Level 2 charging and supports the NACS connector.
